How many eggs does a chicken lay in it's lifetime? I wondered the same thing. At Answers.com, it said that the amount was dependent on the breed of hen. "There are breeds that only lay 12 to 24 eggs per year, times that by and average life span of 5 years and you have only 60 to 120 for an average lifetime. And there are breeds that are egg laying machines putting out 300 the first year, 200 the second and about 120 a year for the next 3 years, averaging about 800 for a 5 year lifespan."

How are these images created? Well, it's really a photomontage, of sorts. I take lots of different images that I've collected (copyright free, of course), then I cut, paste, draw, manipulate, and combine them using my photoshop toolbox. I giggle a lot in the process. Taking a 19th century scientific illustration of a chicken, like this:

Then dressing it in designer jeans and heels, like this:

is quite amusing. At least to me. As with many of my artistic endeavors, I wonder if anyone else gets it. Then, I promptly forget about wondering and get right back to giggling and creating.

Cock-a-Doodle Kung Fu

Cock-a-Doodle Kung Fu is as dangerous as he is punctual. You can count on him to round house kick any hen house intruders, and wake you promptly at sunrise with his crowing. And of course his idol is Bruce Lee:

Meet Punk Cock. As you can see by his sweet Misfits tat, he's punk to the core. He's totally old school punk--anti establishment, motorcycle-jacket-loving, piercings galore, and loves moshing. I was going to post a song by the Misfits, but I don't really dig the horror punk genre.

Fowl By Design!

I've decided to start a little side business (along with the rest of the world). It's a line of designs some would describe as, "quirky", others, "eggcellent". For me, creating them has been amusing and delightful.

It all started when my brother and sister-in-law got some chickens. I thought they were hilarious, with all their pecking and scratching. We had quite a lot of fun with chicken puns, which lead me to create images to go along with them.

I made the chicken portraits for fun, and soon was wondering what I should do them. I decided I'd learn how to silkscreen, which I am in the process of doing. It's a lot of fun, and work, but I'm getting the hang of it.

I'm also setting up an Etsy site (along with the rest of the world), and will get it up and running once my silkscreening skills improve. In the meantime, the chicken idea's keep hatching! I'm posting them in hopes of getting some feedback. I might just be out of my clucking mind!
